Anthropic launches new model Fable 5, a Mythos class model with safeguards
Anthropic just launched its new model Fable 5, a Mythos class model that is the most powerful one Anthropic has released to the public.
They didn’t release Mythos before because it was so powerful it could identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities online — thereby enabling bad actors to exploit them. Anthropic alerted those vulnerabilities to cybersecurity experts so they can be fixed before this release. Plus, Anthropic added safeguards to Fable 5 in attempt to avoid use in malevolent attacks online.
Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model made safe for general use. Its capabilities exceed those of any model we’ve ever made generally available. The longer and more complex the task, the larger Fable 5’s lead over our other models. Releasing a model this capable comes with risks. Without safeguards, Fable 5’s capabilities in areas like cybersecurity could be misused to cause serious damage, so queries on a narrow range of topics fall back to our next-most-capable model, Claude Opus 4.8. That happens, on average, in less than 5% of sessions. We’re also launching Claude Mythos 5 for a small group of cyber defenders and critical infrastructure providers: the same underlying model, with the safeguards lifted in some areas. Claude Fable 5 is available everywhere today. More at anthropic.com/news/
